Re: [atlarge-discuss] Comments Invited on Election Details

I agree with you on this Jamie

I think the sooner an election is held, the sooner a more permanent panel
can get on with all the rest of the details, AND have longer to put them
into force. It would be ironical if we extended our 90-day mandate, made
decisions on things like Mission Statement and Name, only to have those
decisions overturned by the next panel.

The bottom-line is that we were given a 90 day mandate, and if the only
thing we achieve is the election of a more permanent panel, then so be it.
The important thing is not the Interim Panel but the more permanent Panel
and the development of Outreach that should follow quickly after they've
been elected.

I expect we can achieve more than just an election anyway, but we should not
change the contract with our members (ie our mandate) unless there are
exceptional circumstances, and then, only if there is a clear majority vote
on it.

I advocate immediate deliberations on the election format, with a view to
holding the election by July 27th. Failing that, I request the panel decides
whether they want a members vote on an extension. I would find such a vote a
somewhat tedious extra administration, which would only delay further what
really needs doing.

We don't have to write "War and Peace" or the Bible before setting up
elections. We just need rules and process for an election.

The real issue is building up membership so that our claims to represent the
internet public have greater credibility.

Richard
