RE: [atlarge-discuss] Mission statement

Instead of "voting mechanism" could we make that "democratic mechanism"?
It sounds better, and it is a little more accurate.

I agree with you about the statement needing to be short, our mission is
simple, but yet important, the statement should reflect that.

With the statement you provided below, if we were to replace the "We"s
with "I"s, it could also be used as an oath of membership.

"To boldly go where no man has gone before!" <-- that is one of my
favorites :-)

Subject: [atlarge-discuss] Mission statement

First and foremost we do not need two or three.
Mission statements are easy, Rodenberry wrote the most famous - To
boldly go where no..........

"We the participants of this group ( ? ) are dedicated to create a
voting mechanism to bring greater public awareness and involvement in
the important decisions regarding connectivity to the World Wide Web and
matters concerning the mechanisms that are commonly referred to as the
Internet.

We fully intend to interface and assist in determining public will with
all groups involved in making policy with regard to interactive computer
use and addressing of communications through computers.

We intend to operate with openness and fairness. We intend to be open
to all and be truly representative of users throughout the world."

So who can argue with that? Mission statements are not controlling on
matters of contract. Mission statements are a stated intention of what
we hope to do. I suppose we could throw in a Safe Harbor recital for
the lawyers ;-}
