Thanks, Abel, but does that not presuppose that people have unlimited connection time and presumably "round-the-clock" chat time? We're located all over the world, work on all sorts of different equipment, and even if this were set up so that everyone can use it without racking up huge costs to do so, we can't really "talk" to one another that way unless we agree to a specific date and time in advance. 

Otherwise, presumably you expect us to log in periodically around the clock in case another member happens to be online? As far as I'm concerned, "chat" is just that -- I don't really have the time or inclination for it, and it would make our discussions more cumbersome rather than less so.

Sorry to be a wet blanket but I'm quite reluctant to have this group switch to anything that isn't fully accessible to all Internet users ... including me. I spend ALL of my precious hour of online time for yesterday trying to 
a) find an IRC client that would run on a System 7.5 Mac and downloading IRCle only to find that the #$%^ more-than-a-MB download was corrupted and will need to be downloaded again;
b) find something useful on the ircjunkie.net site, where I got no links at all, a 111k sexist illustration I could certainly have lived without, and some unfriendly code that froze my Mac.
