Subject: [NIRG] testimonials re: benefits of online volunteering

NetAid has just published two new testimonials regarding the benefits
of online volunteering for organizations serving developing
countries: one story is from an NGO in Pakistan, and another is from
an online volunteer in Italy who assisted an organization in Nepal.
You can read these testimonials by going to
http://www.netaid.org/ov/
And clicking on a story under "news", or by clicking on "stories"
under the "Volunteer" menu.

Reading about the experiences of these and other organizations and
individuals involved in online volunteering is an excellent way to
learn what online volunteering (sometimes called "virtual
volunteering") is all about, particularly the various services that
are provided online by volunteers and the very real impact that
online volunteering has had on both individuals providing service and
the organizations they serve.

NetAid's Online Volunteering service is managed by the UN Volunteers
program (www.unvolunteers.org). Since early 2000, the NetAid OV
service has brought thousands online volunteers together with
organizations in developing countries. Online volunteers undertake a
variety of assignments through NetAid, such as translations,
research, web design, data analysis, database design, proposal
writing, editing articles, online mentoring, publication design,
graphics design, moderating an online discussion group, or managing
other online volunteers.

But NetAid Online Volunteering is more than a matching service; it
provides a full suite of tools to help organizations manage and
recognize online volunteers, and tools to help volunteers manage
their assignments and evaluate organizations. There are also
extensive support materials to help both individuals and hosting
organizations get the most out of online volunteering. All NetAid OV
tools and information are free.

Please see http://www.netaid.org/ov/ for more information.
