Beijing set to step up net curbs

China's government is set to impose greater control on the internet
by fostering state-owned websites and publishing a plethora of new
regulations, according to industry executives and lawyers.
The moves appear motivated primarily by a desire to supervise
internet content, inhibit the development of competition for the
traditional state media, and channel monetary gains from China's
internet fever toward state concerns.
