English summary: Governments are expanding their influence on the
Internet namespace, both on ICANN and the cc-Registries.
Representatives from the Swiss and German governments told the
audience at the Zurich conference on ICANN that they think about ways
of regulating Internet naming policies. Registry representatives
showed surprise and warned not to use registries as executors of
several political aims of the governments. Andrew McLaughlin said
ICANN on one hand needed input from the governements, on the other
hand was fearful of inappropriate redelegation requests by
governenments which might even be against their own laws. Obviously,
the governments seem reluctant against "self regulation without
security safeguards".
