RealAudio Copyright Protections Come
Under Fire
(05/06/98; 8:08 p.m. ET)
By Andrew Craig, TechWeb

RealNetworks is denying claims by a British
music industry group that audio accessed via
its RealAudio product can be recorded and
saved as digital files, creating copyright
problems for many website owners.

The RealAudio software, used by 85 percent of
Internet broadcasters, was believed to prevent
users from saving audio streams as digital files,
since they are not stored on the user's hard drive.
But a group of consultants in London said this is no
longer the case.
