* ISOC ISSUES STATEMENT ON U.S. GOVERNMENT WHITE PAPER
The Internet Society applauds the U.S. government White
Paper on the transition from government control of the
Internet to industry self-governance. The government's
position, according to ISOC representatives, clearly
reflects the will of Internet stakeholders and demonstrates
wisdom and sound analysis by its framers. Writes ISOC in a
formal response: "This is a major victory for Internet self-
governance and a demonstration of the finest results that
can come from international cooperation. We believe its
action and recommendations reflect sound decision-making
based on a profound understanding of the dynamics of the
Internet -- that is, the bottom-up, grassroots, consensus-
building processes that have served the evolution of the
Internet so well throughout its history."
