RE: [atlarge-discuss] A proposed letter

I agree with Danny. We as an organized entity need to write a formal
request to the DoC. To do so, we need a consensus of the organization. To
get consensus, we need a poll, and an "all hands" e-mail requesting
involvement. This should occur quickly.

Dear Joop,

Thank you for your help in bringing this proposed letter to the attention of
the Interim Panel.

As I understand it, this Panel has a mandate to guide "an outreach campaign
so that the highest possible number of active users of the Internet who
might
want to participate in ICANN are informed of the effort and can register on
icannatlarge.com if they wish".

I must candidly admit that while I haven't thoroughly scrutinized the
outreach efforts of this Panel, I have not noted a major increase in the
membership roster during their tenure thus far. This is not meant as a
criticism, but rather as an observation that additional steps need to be
taken...

This proposed petition to the Department of Commerce might well serve as a
key tool to help foster the outreach that this organization seeks. Allow me
to explain:

By posting the petition on the website, and by allowing all interested
parties to sign on to the petition (providing their name and address
details), this document can serve as the focal point for a new effort to
sign
up additional members (you simply need to publicize the petition on
ICANNwatch, Slashdot, Kuro5hin, and other venues, and to make sure that a
membership sign-up option is included as a link on the same page that holds
the petition).

The Department of Commerce has already received letters from "organizations"
(the GA and NGOs). They would benefit from a petition signed by
"individuals". If you can help to further facilitate this process, it might
serve all of our mutual needs.

Best regards,
Danny
