I really like this idea.

I'd say it is a "must".

Part of giving members "ownership" of their organisation involves allowing
their own identities and abilities to be known, if they desire.

This personalises what we're trying to do.

I'd suggest a link from a published membership list to an individual webpage
set up for each member who wants one.

Obviously there would be no compulsion about this.

To me, our focus must be on recruitment and grass roots : Joe's idea would
contribute well to this process. I may try to set up a similar concept at my
own site.
