Chris, I believe you! I've known some Texans, including a close relative who has lived there for many years, who may have the accent but still believe in the rule of law and the wisdom of staying rational if you want to do anything useful. 

On the other hand, the tactics of bafflegab and obstructionism, persistent jingoism and a total lack of cultural sensitivity are by no means confined to the Lone Star State.

Maybe it's the difference between the gunslingers and warlords who invade first and the later settlers who wanted to build themselves peaceful, safe communities? 

Bullying has been much the same throughout history, and whether the bullies are the Assyrians or the Mongols or the Americans "don't make no never mind".
