The problem, Bret, is that we members cannot send a message to all members of the group to tell them what happened and ask them to use e-mail instead. There are over a thousand members, not all of whom receive this list, and *we* don't have their names and contact information.

Our Panel is the body which has access to the list and would normally e-mail everyone to explain what happened and reassure them that the forums will be back soon. 

Personally, I'm very surprised that they did not automatically prepare such a message once the problem was first discovered. Most organizations do notify their members about things like this.
