Re: [atlarge-discuss] Time...

Hello Jaz-Michael:

Believe us, we are serious. We would not be spending so much effort online if we did not think that it would come to fruition. We are attempting to grasp something out of the morass of ICANN and make it real for the public. We knew it was not going to be easy. We knew it was going to take some time. Perhaps, we underestimated a little. We have been working towards (some would say we are struggling towards) a mission statement, a set of by-laws, and building of a political ground swell that will make our voices heard in those smoke filled back rooms that make policy. It is not a joke. Although, there are many amongst us that have a sense of humor (so needed in this time of exasperation and frustration) and there are also some jokesters. Unfortunately, the jokesters usually do not have a sense of humor and are only interested in playing tricks. However, we hope to prevail and provide a sense of unity bereft of the derisiveness that often seems to be present. It wil!

take time. It took several years for the ratification of the U.S. Articles of Constitution. There were bitter verbal battles and a few sordid duels even after it was signed. Nobody said this was going to be painless. I just hope the distances provided by the Internet will inhibit most, if not all, of the duels.

But, I do agree with you in kind. Something has to be done to certify the sentient from the crazies.

Micheal Sherrill

Hi all, I'm actually concerned about ICANN, the future architecture of DNS and TLDs. I did the icann @large thing, that went south and I ended up giving up. I heard about this group and was led to believe that it's a legitimate effort to restart the @large movement. It appears I may be wrong, but can anyone tell me if this is a joke list or what?

If this is indeed a serious group may I suggest some form of email address confirmation for posting rights? Or has this effort died before it's begun? If you guys need a server with a real listserver that allows for list management I'd be happy to donate.

Cheers

I suspect that these affairs will tend to be overshadowed by the war quite
soon, and the best we can make of it is to build thoroughly for the future
of the At Large and initiate outreach through individual members in
individual countries.
