RE: [atlarge-discuss] Joey Borda/Bordo declines panel nomination

Good point. You may now make that three entries under Volunteering.

To paraphrase a very old quotation, I may not agree with what you think,
but I will defend your right to think it, lol....

Subject: [atlarge-discuss] Joey Borda/Bordo declines panel nomination

To all interested:

While I appreciate the nomination for election as a "icannatlarge.org"
panel member, and consider that I would make a good panel member,
regretfully I must decline nomination at this time.

To understand my reasons best I point those with the time and interest
to
my icannatlarge.com volunteer profile at

http://www.icannatlarge.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=250

(1) There you will find enough personal information about me to
understand
my disinclination. It can best be summed in a paraphrase. "There are
some
just too gentle to live among baboons." Even saying this I fear I may be

insulting baboons. My apologies to baboons.

(2) In all this time since August 8, 2002 only one other than myself has

put up profile information at
http://www.icannatlarge.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=19, Bruce Young, plus
one
other a notice of volunteering.

While I'm sure there's a lot of information about other folks to be
gleaned
from posts to atlarge-discuss@lists.fitug.de the sheer volume of posts
to
the list mitigate against finding those needles in the haystack.

Even so I have come to respect quite a number of folks in icannatlarge
only
through the consistency reflected in their postings. Lately that has
become
nigh impossible. Sadly, I must filter out certain posters (also
consistent
in their postings) just to be able to stand reviewing mailing list
postings.

My point here is that I am not much interested, were I to be elected, in

serving with others I know little or nothing about. Given our experience
of
the last year need I say more?

If folks can't be bothered to coherently disclose themselves long before

any elections so that their posts can be read along side of their
profile
information so that I may form an informed opinion of them along the
way,
why should I be interested in voting for them at an election?

(3) Once upon a time I felt compelled to save the world, especially in
the
face of the inaction, failure or the small success of others. I also
felt
compelled to get in the middle of fights as a peacemaker (being the son
of
an alcoholic that I am). Fortunately for me, and the world too I think,
I
no longer live under those compulsions. Dad's dead, and as to the world,

well, it takes care of itself just fine without me attempting to
shoulder
it. In our immediate case the "spirit" of icannatlarge will find a way
as
well without me as a hard slogging panelist at this time.

(4) Call it what you will, along with continuing polling, I believe our
first and greatest need is the certification of membership, and the
election of a panel/committee for that purpose.

I would be willing to volunteer, to stand for election, to such a
membership certification panel. Again, I can't see nominating people who

haven't first put up a profile.

(5) Lastly, for me, the arguments over the current election effort have
gotten so muddied and vitriolic that I will not even enter them. I have
people I respect on several sides at least. I am grieved at too many of
the
posts. I no longer read them.
