Re: [atlarge-discuss] what is this?

Dear Gilbert,
every group need a momentum. There are three ways of getting it: leading, pushing, catalysing. Many know how to lead and disputes from that, I prefer catalysis but it seems I am reduced to pushing right now :-)

When the group becomes too large, individual leadership, push or catalysis must pass to a group: this is why we need a Panel.

But delegating to a group is not that easy: technically (hence theses elections) and personnally (leaders tend to reduce the group through bickering and boring so they can stay a leader). The worst thing is when leaders can control "bylaws", then they start controlling the small group formed by the Panel or a few committees and everything else is dead. This is why this community stalled about bylaws and Panelist resigned (also because ICANN helped with ALAC).

This is why need capilarity: small groups all over the place, in every trade and theme, which can grow from 1 to a few. These group can then delegate representatives (subsidiarity) getting also involved locally, in their trade because they are reps.

As much people can be bored and live, as much representative defend their rights and stay :-). When the spirit is to produce positions, defend new projects, protect users, all the sudden tired, unkown members become ardent representative and defensors.

You want an example? you.

We never heard of you before. But you came and decide to be a candidate. And you start being active. If you are only a few, it will only be a new generation. If we succeed with 27 candidates to rise a good group of new blood and reach the critical mass: it will be an outreach explosion. We need the atomic activity in the group to grow enough to stop at fighting each other, and explode so it starts fighting for each others.

If you manage to make this Panel credible I have no fear, we will be 10.000 in one year. You will have the ideas for that. Otherwise we will keep being 1000- and there will be a need for you to share in other actions in the @large interests.

all,

i agree with ivonne and mauro. this past few days, i have been following the discussions on this list regarding the upcoming elections and have also browsed through the past discussions stored in the archives. i have to say i am quite amazed at the great energy and passion with which people have been arguing certain matters. i am surprised though that i don't hear voices concerned of the fact that membership has "dwindled to 950" as jefsey noted in the questions he raised for the candidates. perhaps we should look at our priorities. @large for me represent the participation of the great mass of internet users in internet governance. i find it sad that participation is dwindling instead of increasing.

"Plan for what is difficult while it is easy, do what is great while it is small. The most difficult things in the world must be done while they are still easy, the greatest things in the world must be done while they are still small. For this reason sages never do what is great, and this is why they can achieve that greatness." - Attributed by Sun Tzu to warriors of ancient times.
