RE: [atlarge-discuss] An observation re. 273
Well said. I would have preferred a more detailed signature so that
more would realize there are many civil and thoughtful participants even
though they may not be as loud as some others.
Sincerely,

Subject: Re: [atlarge-discuss] An observation re. 273
At the risk of generating potential flurry of e-mails
in the future, I'd like to comment that the list is
generating an huge amount of, dare I say, unnecessary
bickerings and somewhat unproductive discussions, and
steering away from the original missions (whatever
thay maybe at this point) of this list/group.
While I respect spirited discussions and actually read
all of the hundreds of e-notes sent to the list, I am
left wondering if there are just too many personal
agendas rather than any particularly focus goals. To
my mind, people who want to accomplish something tend
to find some common points and get on with them. The
continually mind-numbing bickerings over every slight,
every point, every issue over who's boss and
in-charge, and every other frustrations that some
individuals seem to use this list as their personal
venting post, are not productive and/or helpful.
Further, I've always under the impression that
democractic election, votes and discussions do not
mean that everyone must comply with, and submission to
some people who happened to send the most e-mails, or
notes full of sarcasm, or nasty innuendoes and/or
aggressions.
Fortunately, there are some civil discussants who
write and express thoughtful comments on this list.
Some of you may asked, "who are you to critique us?"
My answer is simple, I am interested in these issues
since '00, read and listened, though I rarely comment
or even sent e-mails. On that note, I hope that
everyone will read my e-mail with considerations.
Just in case, please refrain from spamming me, and by
the way I don't comply to any form of menacing
approaches. Thank you.
Peace.

273 is the number of emails in my inbox from this

We have to start thinking about engaging many more
volunteers, who can each contribute 10- 20 minutes of
their day to build a piece of the construction of an
icannatlarge organization.
If we keep on relying on 5-10 individuals who spend
12 hours per weekend or 4-5 hours a day on
icannatlarge mail, both reading and contributing, we
are setting ourselves up for failure.
Since the days of the ifwp discussions, the load of
ML reading has increased massively and it cannot go on
indefinitely without causing burn-out.
The result would be a democracy of "the last man
standing". We have to find a way to make mass
participation scalable, without leading to individual
overload. We are reaching the limits of utility of a
mailing list.
