Laws fail to block Net porn
By JENNY SINCLAIR
Tuesday 8 February 2000
A NEWSGROUP posting has been classified as banned material by the
Office of Film and Literature Classification.
The posting, a text-only piece described as a "snuff story" by
Electronic Frontiers Australia member Danny Yee, was first published
on 14 December 1998.
Yee found the piece on DejaNews (www.dejanews.com) and submitted it
as a complaint to test the regulations, he said.
The Australian Broadcasting Authority says it has advised approved
Internet filter makers that the portion of the news archive Web
server containing the posting is "refused classification" and should
be blocked.
