Judge: Library Filters Must Go

Public libraries in a Virginia county may
not install filtering software, a federal
judge ruled Monday in a widely watched
case that has become the first to
determine how US libraries will control
Internet access.
Loudoun County's decision to install
blocking programs "offends the guarantee
of free speech in the First Amendment,"
said District Judge Leonie Brinkema, who
ordered the library to yank the software
from its computers straightaway.
