Thomas, Brad and all,
I agree with you Thomas that Brad's essay is a very good one to provide
for
some in-depth understanding issues surrounding ICANN, DNS, and some
trademark issues. I only had two areas where our organization is in
some disagreement with Brad.
The ICANN experiment is failing. It can be seen every day, all over
the globe, not just in the DNS either. IP addressing and protocol
development
and deployment have some stark examples. Brad's ideas regarding
replacing ICANN have been underway in earnest for a little bit longer
than a year now. New.net is just one example of such that has gained
some recognition and notice. Other organizations and technology have
been quietly gaining recognition such as SROOTS, and BINDPlus
throughout several areas of the international community.
The other minor area of disagreement was with the idea that Brad
indicated that there is not such thing as a Trademark that is
international.
That is not actually true. International Marks are attainable, and
through
NAFTA and GATT, amongst other international multilateral
trade agreements, the country specific Trademarks are usually
honored...
