The root is by nature unique. As is the universe.

Question: have you a real problem in having the root/ICANN (Legacy) under
ICANN supervision and the root/eu under EEC, building together with the
other namespace manager (USG for Govnet, China for their root, etc..) the
"universal root". It takes around 30 days for a change proposed by the
ICANN to be entered into the USG root. Don't you think there is plenty of
time to concert between different parallel root operators to make sur they
use the same, or even to use a common secretariat to fullfil the job?

No one talk about autonomous root here We talk about root servers. Why does
everyone want to talk about fighting and not about concertation. Some
developper 20 years ago did not designed the root server protocol for more
than 13 machines to work together because at that time 3 or 4 root servers
were luxury. Would he have chosen 371 there would be plenty of people
explaining us that the world is designed for a 371 root servers system or
war ...

Internet is the Jon Postel private sub-network which interconnected the
international public data network system in 1984 and did not change its
adminisrtation much until Berner-Lee used it for the web. Let it rest in
peace under the ICANN post Jon Postel management and let consider the Intl
network wich includes X.121 and TCP/IP networks and several billions of
users to be.

IMHO if we understand the way its gouvenance should be organized, the
ICANN's role will fit easily into it at its right place. May be we aree
better not to fix the roof before digging the foundations?
