Hello list,
let's see, if we can get into that ...
> - What do you expect from additional gTLDs?
additional gTLDs should provide more "space" for rememberable internet
addresses. But will this be the case if we have eg. 50 new TLDs? Isn't it
also the case that you have to remember the tld for its own, too?
AThen there will come the companies which have got already domain.org,
domain.com, domain.net, domain.co.uk, domain.at, domain.de, ... I'm very
sure that people who register then domain.firm will get serious problems
from the owner of the other domains (like here in Germany we had that case
with WDR ...)
The ICANN should get very strict policies about the new domains (if
introduced). It can't be that the small man (who is in the same way an
internet user as everyone else - also the big companies) can't get the
domain he wants to get because someone else collected "all the interesting"
domains already. I think here only about eg. icann.de or umts.de (both 2
german sites wich are "under construction" and to sell.). I personally think
this is just not right. dot.
> - What are your ideas about the introduction of such domains?
I think generally there should be a random number. A random number? OK, we
had that discussion with the *.eu-TLD. A IMHO very interesting URL about
this is http://geht.net/tino/opinion/doteu.txt. There he states the idea
under number 5).
Generally it adds a random number as 2nd level TLD (eg. bracker.53476.nom
for "new TLDs" if they will come). In the way the internet is growing now we
can't hold onto the wonderful TLD-politic we have now (eg. domain.org).
There just will be too many ppl who want to get the specific domains. How
wil the internet look like in 20 years? Will we be introducing new and new
TLD's? But also this way of introducing more and more of them will come to
an end one time ...

hmmm, I think I stated that already in the part above ...
however, let's wait for replies :)
have a great day and have fun,
Mike
