[ICANN-EU] new member of the list

Hi,

as a new member of this list (since yesterday evening), as invited by Thomas
Roessler, here a short summary of my ideas about ICANN:
(answers to the other questionnaires from the archive will follow during the
day)

Being involved in network tasks nearly 20 years now, I was following the
development of the Internet especially in Germany very closely. AS an active
member of the IETF since 91, my view was (and still is) always technically.
When the Internet left the universities and started its way into commercial
business, I felt the need of some kind of organization to help the Internet
to stay clear of pure commercial interests and too much political influence.
This was (for me) the main reason to start DIGI (Deutsche
Interessengemeinschaft für das Internet) and join ISOC. DIGI started as an
effort to solve problems with the German NIC, which had to leave university
environment and funding at the early 90s. For several years I was
representing DIGI during the process of the definition and development of
the DENIC-IV which became later the DENIC eG.
When this process was finished DIGI changed its goals more to a focus of
being a forum for all groups of Internet-users in Germany. We decided then
in 1996/97 to change DIGI to become the German chapter of ISOC.
One of my functions at ISOC.DE is to monitor the whole process of ICANN (and
its predecessor IAHC) and report to our members (and all visitors of several
meetings and websites) about the state and results of this process.
My main goals as a potential member of the board of ICANN will be:
-make sure that the Internet is running and not destabilized by any decision
of ICANN
-make sure that the Internet is available for anybody anywhere
-make sure that no interest group (commercial, political or any other) can
monopolize the Internet

My reason to go on the path for petition, after being turned by the NOMCOM,
is the believe that there should be more independent voices on the board.
The board of directors and the list of nominees from the NOMCOM is for my
opinion a little bit too much in favor of big companies and big
stakeholders.
