In my opinion, the most up-to-date information, directly linked to
@large-elections, is the following:
"Volunteer Service
Directors are volunteers; there is no payment for services.
[...]
Reimbursement for Travel Expenses
Generally, travel, hotel and related expenses incurred to
attend ICANN meetings are reimbursed. In light of ICANN's
limited resources, ICANN can provide only modest, reasonable
accomodations and reimbursements."

I dont know wether there might be more compensation; travel expenses at
least _will_ be reimbursed, following this information.
