[ICANN-EU] Re: [icann-candidates] An older proposal reiterated

Hi, Constantine.

The people who care enough about ICANN to have involved
themselves with the member-nominated process are clearly a
group that should be listened to by whomever wins the election.
If the candidates choose to organize themselves, possibly together
with other interested people, into a group that calls itself eubody
or whatever other name it decides upon, I should think that
that would improve their chances of being listened to. But of
course it strongly depends on who wins the election.

In my election statement I pledge to create an advisory body of
experts from the relevant areas, including technology, policy,
economics, and the law. As ACM President I created
president@acm.org so that members could write directly to me.
Not only did I get a sense of the interests of the members,
but I was also able to fix some problems that otherwise might
have been ignored or fallen through the cracks at headquarters.

If I am elected to the Board, I shall try to make myself
similarly available to the at-large members. Since
the Internet community is obviously considerably larger
than the ACM membership, which is only 80,000,
I could find myself overwhelmed with email, in which
case I might not be able to respond to everyone. (I believe
that I responded to all the ACM members who wrote).
I would also create a web site specifically for members
to hold discussions about topics of concern to them.

I don't know if you find my response satisfactory or not.
The bottom line, as far as I'm concerned, is that a
representative of the at-large membership must act like
a representative. That means making a commitment to
listening and responding to as many people as possible.
It also means getting input from people who are knowledgeable
about all the areas involved with ICANN policy, since none
of us is an expert in them all.

Regards,
Barbara
