At some time, we'll have to debate the scope of this list.
While I see that all topics raised so far on this list are of immenent
importance to the Net, most of them are yet discussed on various
other lists. This is certainly true for controversial isses like the IDNO,
alt.root or IPv6.
Just as an example, less than an hour ago someone posted on the
IPv6 haters list:
--------------------snip---------------------------------
Sure, you can have all the addresses you can ever want, and more,
but the fact is that they are not ROUTABLE addresses. A 128-bit
number is no more useful than a 32-bit number if nobody can use
it to contact you.
------------------------snip--------------------------------
IPv6 is still subject of considerable arguments, within IETF and
elsewhere. I think it makes no sense at all to import and duplicate
those controversies on this list.
We won't achieve anything if we try to comprehend the whole scope
of architectural and administrative issues sorrounding the Net.
Therefore, I'd like to suggest that we restrict issues that are dealt with
by the Supporting Organizations to concrete questions. Extensive
debates should be carried elsewhere.
If we can't agree on this or a similar idea, I'd suggest that we make a
start to talk about the future scope of this list.
