Hello Andrew and fellows,

that's a pretty good question and I would love to know some facts about it.
There was a 'question' to the government in Germany from a opposition party
who asked about the relationship to and what they would be thinking about
ICANN. The government felt that there wouldn't be any other choice than
ICANN at the moment. For sure they know hardly anything about ICANN (perhaps
some do but who would be interested? ...). The problem of ICANN is (IMHO)
that it is really still in a deep relationship with the US-government. ICANN
would have to be fully independent and probably supported and accnowledged
by (an) international organization(s) to be eligible for support from
governements or organizations over here.
ICANN in Europe doesn't have (in official circles - other orgs like fitug,
newsmagazines and other ppl support it fully afaik) the position it has to
have to be the administrative body of the Internet (dns&ips) - but that will
come (hopefully).
FYI: the German government was also asked about finacial support of a
independent candidate. Also for such a member of the board they do not look
willing to give anything ...
just my $0,02
ThX for your time,
Michael
