It is a pity, I agree, but it might be, at the moment, wise.

Sorry, this is not true. Any french citizen can have a domain name
under .nom.fr (his domainname will be his name) or under .com.fr
(he can choose whatever name he want's under this extension).
We consider that we have a responsability on the meaning that
is attached to domain names (like a word should mean something
shouldn't it?)

Sorry, once again this is not true. Afnic is a non for profit
organisazion, not a govrnemental institution. All stakeholders are
represented in concertation commitees, not only the governement.
Nice that there is different spaces for different sensitivity
doesn't it?
