Actually, the ORSC is a confederation of many. MHSC, while supporting the
ORSC, has always kept some distance and has never actually become a ORSC
member. Currently, MHSC has had a hold on updates since Feb01. We don't use
BIND to transfer the root zone file, prefering out of band methods instead.
Therefore, as far as BIND is concerned, each zone server cluster (ZSC, an
MHSC product, $12KUS, deployed as CPE) is a separate cell. None of the cells
knows about the other cells. It is done this way for security reasons. We
use SCP to transfer the zone file (DNSSEC is still unproven). This method
also gave us another option, MHSC controls distribution precisely. The MHSC
root-zone file is also slightly different from that of the ORSC.

MHSC has publically commited to supporting the BIZ from the PacRoot, run by
Leah Gallagos. MHSC continues to honor that commitment. We also support ORSC
member TLDs prior to Feb01. The MHSC ZSC product has been deployed in a
number of high-bandwidth and globally accessible sites. All of them are
publishing the same root zone file. These sites are not a part of the ORSC
root server constellation.

MHSC has obvious operational policy differences with the ORSC. This has been
true for some years. However, due to a desire to show solidarity with a more
publically visible entity, we have never before voiced these differences in
public. We will not do so now, in any detail, other than to state that there
are differences. MHSC will continue to support the ORSC, with some
reservations, but please be aware that there are some serious ideological
differences.

We are currently evaluating what impact we will allow the DOC-introduced
colliders to have on our constellation. Some of this involves the
modification of Oracle schemas used in MHSC ZSC systems, since we now have
to filter what was never filtered before, the USG/DOC/root-zone file.

This is only a distribution mechanism, MHSC does not yet operate a public
registry.
