All events will eventually lead up to a Public Hearing organised by the European Commission in Brussels on 25 May 1999.

On 20 January 1999, the Commission published the Green Paper, which discusses how the information gathered by government bodies can be used to provide the greatest benefit for citizens and businesses around Europe.

During the events, all interested parties are encouraged to put forward their views on the issues raised in this Green Paper. Comments and questions may be posted in advance of the live session.

The seminars and Internet chat sessions, which are being organised by the Commission programmes MIDAS-NET and INFO2000, will be held in Luxembourg, Sweden, Spain, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Finland, France, Portugal and Iceland.
