The issue of patents on methods of doing business seems to have quieted down for the time being (though I heard a hilarious rumor involving Gail Hayes, an examiner on many of these patents - anyone with a copy of her letter please fax me a copy). Despite the lull, these patents are regularly being issued. What follows is a list of 110 "Wall Street" patents, i.e., patents on things that Wall Street institutions like to do. Interestingly, 75% of them have issued since 1997, and I suspect that now that the CAFC has ruled that "anything is patentable" (ATT/Excel), there will be a flood of such patents to match the other floods coming out of the PTO.
