Earlier this year, the European Commission published a call for proposals for standardisation projects for the Information Society in the context of the Commission's initiative on standardisation (ISIS).

It has now published a call for expressions of interest with a view to setting up an advisory panel on Information Society standardisation initiatives. The panel will monitor the implementation of the ISIS work programme, evaluate the results achieved, and identify priorities and optimal working methods for future initiatives in the field of Information Society standardisation. The panel should include representatives of industrial users, the public interest, academia and consumers.

Candidates expressing interest in membership in the advisory panel may qualify on the grounds of their personal expertise in one or more of the following areas:

- Technological expertise as regards IT and related technologies, in particular on interoperability issues; - Legal expertise as regards standardisation, intellectual property rights, competition rules and anti-trust regulations; - Socio-economic expertise, in particular with a view to the market power and potential market failures related to electronic commerce and (public) procurement; - Consumer protection and representation of public interest, in particular regarding matters such as accessibility, security, data protection and privacy.
