By Sue Zeidler LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A coalition of musical stars, headed by singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow, on Thursday launched a campaign against a change to copyright law that bars artists from reclaiming rights to master recordings after 35 years -- a move they say could cost them millions of dollars. Crow testified on Thursday in front of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts and Intellectual Property against the change initiated last year by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) that designated all sound recordings as "works for hire." Under the law, a "work for hire" is considered the property of the employer -- the record company -- and not the artist, preventing artists from reclaiming their copyrights 35 years after recordings are made. Crow and other artists such as Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett, Don Henley feel strongly they are entitled to recapture the ownership of their copyrights.<< <snip>
