WIPO MILAN FORUM ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES

Milan, February 9 and 10, 2001

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will organize, in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade of Italy, a Forum on Intellectual Property and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, to be held in Milan, Italy, on February 9 and 10, at the Marriott Hotel, Via Washington 66, Milan 20146, Italy (Tel: +39 02 48 521).

The main objective of the Forum will be to review the role of the intellectual property system in enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises. It will also provide an opportunity to inform the participants about the initiatives of WIPO on this subject and to examine a possible mid-term plan of action.

The Forum is expected to be opened, inter alia, by the Honorable Giuliano Amato, Prime Minister of Italy, and the Director General of WIPO. Keynote speeches will be held by the Honorable Enrico Letta, Minster for Industry and Foreign Trade of Italy, and by Dr. Herwig Schlögl, Deputy Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Presentations will be made by a number of eminent speakers and experts in the field.

Participants will include high-level officials from Member States of WIPO as well as representatives from intergovernmental organizations, national SME support institutions, non-governmental organizations and entrepreneurs.
