Re: [atlarge-discuss] Atlarge-discuss summary 04 Aug - 10 Aug 2002

This is a tentative summary of the discussion on atlarge-discuss list
last week.

As I said, my source of inspiration were the summaries of DNSO-GA list.
I must warn that I'm not so skilled as Thomas, nor so fluent in English
- as you probably know yet :-(
Nonetheless, particularly in this starting phase, also a far from
perfect effort can help. So, while I encourage others to consider other
ways to do something like this, I would add some some considerations.

For a single individual (for myself, too) is difficult to ensure
continuity in such time-consuming activity.
This is why I think that this could be done by existing groups, may be
at the same time with translation efforts. As a matter of outreach, if I
want to involve someone non English-native, I will explain and
synthetize the main items in our language first.

[BTW, I'm with Vittorio (and others, which are not on this list) in
ISOC.it WG on ICANN at-large and Internet Governance, so this could be
our task, indeed.
I' m sendig this cc on our list - I don't have the time to translate it
now, sorry :-)
- but consider that we have other hot tasks - we are in ALOC, as you
know, and we have a life out there, and during the week around
mid-August you can't ask an Italian to do anything].

Also, some large open source communities are in my mind. They got
organized to share code, and distribute tasks and volunteering efforts,
as we are aimed to share ideas about Internet governance - And
frequently, the same folks interested in share code are interested in
share ideas like these [Just a warning from personal experience:
speaking of (and trying) software solutions, at first is easy to rely
too much on some form of magic - I'm pointing to organizations, not to
extraordinarily capable individuals, nor silver-bullet code]

This organisation is in his infancy, we have more ideas than time, so we
shouldn't expect to have everything made tomorrow. Real-time discussions
are now the panel-mode (I mean that, as Joanna said, both they need to
communicate their achievements and they need to know the state of
member's discussion).
Website (and webring, weblogs, ...), the mailing list's archives, offer
other possibilities of asynchronous communication: not only summaries,
but thematic reports, or someone's collection of posts, thoughts or
links about an item not on top of the agenda but definitely related with
Internet governance.

This, after all, is what everyone is doing to stay up-to-date. I'm only
asking to consider how this could be shared; if this take only a
reasonable amount of extra-work, try to do it ...
