[atlarge-discuss] Fw: Hello World

Ohboy.. I sent this to the wrong address the first time. I'll try again ;-)

Hello everyone,

Please, I appologize for the lengthy words. I had an extra hour before work
this morning (sysadmin) and did feel I should have at least one email on
record before the vote.

I am deeply appreciative of the natural momentum people of similar interest
show toward organizing and formalizing a way to share that interest. I also
appreciate it when that momentum has repeatedly nudged me into responding,
good job! I'm on the list of acceptees and recognize and accept that one
not seen or heard, generally, should expect no support. Yet, I'm on the
list anyway, double good job! A platform so open even non-active voices are
heard is a very noble test of this spirit.

Looking at this interest and its representation and the circumstances that
form to allow expression I'm seeing how this can be something as inherently
guarded as one's own privacy. And that's exactly what is being both
challenged and required by considering whether to take a path of "No
Globalization Without Representation," to borrow a banner from the latest
book I'm reading, _Tommorrow Now_, by Bruce Sterling. But, this
representation, itself, represents a quantum leap in the art of sharing
one's voice, the Internet. We, as participants, are noticing a
sophistication in rising perspective that allows novel ways to consider the
ebbs and flows of this new found liberty. Resepct for the source of that
ability requires us to establish a new metric for it.

The group is in formulation of legitimacy. Making the motions that endow it
with that mantle often really does produce it. But durability will be
determined by whether that process remains open or not, if participants, who
come later, are allowed to adjust, redefine, defend, ammend, catch up,
and/or blaze. Threats to this process are why it exists. The complications
that arise are the result of the growing sophistication. I expose a little
of my privacy when I say that I believe more sophistication will allow
better threat management so we should continue to work toward this goal of
formalization. And to that end bring as many of the new tools of the trade
(some being explored at this very moment) as we can carry, this email list
being only one of them, others offered by personal effort or suggestion.
Also, please recognize that the frustrations being encountered are ones born
from the limits to technology and not to our potential to be nice to each
other.

     Thank you,
