 From the Politech archives:

"Oracle's Larry Ellison lobbies hard for National ID card"

In the end, responsibility for such a decision rests with the George
W. Bush administration. But it is reasonable to wonder how much
Microsoft lobbied for what would be a very, very lucrative contract.

Subject: Feds in bed with Microsoft

Declan, saw this over on Slashdot. The Seattle Times is reporting that
Mark Forman, associate director of information technology at the White
House (or 'America's CIO', as he bills himself) has said the feds are
considering the use of Microsoft's Passport technology to ID every
citizen and every business seeking access to government services
online. This is about as scary as it gets.

Please, Declan, urge Politech readers to write (literal, old-fashioned
pen and paper, I think that makes the most impact) congressional
representatives and tell them why this is such a bad idea, and for so
many reasons.
