I agree. Not only the panel members, but everyone needs to get energized
and start attacking our critical tasks. And one of the first needs to be a
charter. It doesn't need to be overly specific, or perfect the first time
around. But it needs to be in place quickly. The same goes for our name,
our formal incorporation as an entity, a financial struscture so we can
start taking in pledged donations, and some quick decisions about which
bodies we will liaise with and who our initial liason officials will be!

Joop,

I am all too familiar with the argument that one must crawl before one
walks,
and that effort should initially be directed toward the development of a
Charter subsequent to the election of officers.

While it sounds eminently logical, candidly, how long have you and I heard
these very same arguments made on the IDNO list? ... and after literally
years spent on such debate, where is that organization today? Still without
a revised Charter, with a membership that can now be counted on the fingers
of one hand, and with domain name holders still waiting for someone to
actively represent their interests.

We cannot simply put the user community "on hold" while we attend to
housekeeping. There are some things that can be done in parallel tracks,
and
certainly with an eleven-member panel there will be sufficient talent to
multi-task, especially if the new panel actually chooses to engage and
involve the membership.
