I see no reason why an elected official who has the big-picture view of our
organization's needs, can't suggest "Hey, I think we could use your talents
here!" That's why you elect leaders: to lead! The person asked still has
the right to decline the suggestion.
This exchange and others point out that, without by-laws, we have no shared
idea about what our elected Panel members should or shouldn't do. These gals
and guys are playing the best they can without a play book. For now, until
we *do* have bylaws to hold them to, can we all please just assume that our
Panel members -- who I *hope* we all elected because we *trust* them! -- are
just trying to "make things happen," which is the mandate we gave them, and
not read all sorts of ICANN-esque ulterior motives into their words and
actions?
This should also serve as a call to those who volunteered to draft the
by-laws to get cracking! :)
