Good morning, Eric:

    Your thoughtful and sincere postings are a valuable asset to this list,
but I am concerned by your use of the word "merely" in your message below.
I know the word means "simply" or "only" but it also carries a connotation
of "easily accomplished".  I believe it is out of place when applied to the
difficult and complex position in which we have placed our elected panel.

    Half of the posts that I read are chastising panel members for failing
to live up to their responsibilities as elected leaders. The other half are
proclaiming that they have no power or responsibility and certainly are not
elected representatives of the organization.

    I truly believe that this fledgling organization must have leadership
and that that leadership must have the power to lead.  I also believe that
we elected the panel to temporarily fulfill that role, and to accomplish
specific goals within a specific time period.  To suggest that we spend the
next year stumbling about in the dark with no one to lead or represent us in
any way is, in my humble opinion, a ridiculous concept.

    The panel has a number of important tasks to complete, under difficult
circumstances and under the critical eyes of the entire membership.  We must
support and assist them in every way possible.  We must not belittle their
efforts or deny them the authority to complete their work.  One day,
hopefully soon, we will have the legal framework in place to elect a Board
of Directors.  It would be a good thing if we can help the panel to achieve
that goal quickly and to permit them to retire, with our grateful thanks,
earlier than the one year term for which they volunteered, but in the
interim they are our elected leaders and we should allow them the authority
to lead and the respect they deserve.
