Danny raises a fundamental issue here. One of the first items in a
Constitution or founding bylaw is "who is a member?", and for good reason.
IMHO a member is an @large wanting to share in electing who ever we elect.
This makes an @large constituency. Now who is an @large: IMHO a good @large
is any Internet participant who joined this list and survived it. This is
not a joke: I think that we should have to type of polls: regular polling
over issues of interest to know what are the opinions of the community and
real votes to elect or to decide. I think that to vote one should have
shown stability enough to respond regular pollings a few times in the last
months.
It is not very secure to be sure a person is unique and motivated. But I
think that a non motivated duplicate will not respond every week/month a
gallup to accumulate membership points etc.. and will not do it over the
years. While someone motivated and understanding that hos voice may count
will do it. We might lose many people that way in figures, but I think we
would win many others in motivation.
