Re: [atlarge-discuss] certification and verification committee formation & invitations
Dear Joe,
your proposition is of interest, but I am afraid it its not so democratic
as this election itself!
So let tune it together in the respect of your motives and of the voted,
broadcasted and accepted text.
1. there is no watchdog committee
Because the adopted voting solution makes all the members the watchdogs.
Watchdogs are only individuals testifying that they got during the election
time all the votes and only the votes which will be publicly released at
the end, and that everyone will be able to check. (the only reason why it
cannot be fully public is that the anonymization system at hand does not
hide the originating host).
2. the same, there cannot be any ID verification committee.
Because all the members "make" that committee. You were proposed to be a
candidate and you declined. You were proposed to draft a question that
could guide the next Panel and you declined. What you say is you are a "now
and better" guy.
Great! You published your ID and you challenge the candidates to do the
same on their site.
IMHO this is the right spirit!
The Polling Committee is not the Holy Trinity: the Members are the crowd of
the Angels, we only are the sinners. We cannot decide anything outside of
the "moral contract" we have with this community and the candidates,
through what we voted and published and you/they used as reference to answer.
But you - all the Members - are the decision makers.
How many questions did you ask the candidates?
How many of you told them "if you do not show your URL I will not vote for
you"?
How many of you told them "if you do not show your ID I will not vote for you"?
How many of you told them "if you do not subscribe to my ... or to my ... I
will not vote for you"?
How many of you told them "are you here to protest against us or to build
with us?"?
Please DO it !!!
Joey, you are the only one who did it: please keep doing it!
Please all of you, copy Joey!
It would be far more efficient than to require "Jefsey to do this or that
or I resign, or I name him an unilateralist (:-), or I insult him, or I
despise his country, his friends, etc. ...." May be less funy but more
pragmatic, unless we should spell "Jefsey" as "Jalibi" :-)
I gave you the information on the candidates and I pleaded (without result
so far) Bruce, Judyth, Eric or Jan to send me back the access
procedure/password to the site (because my mails were erased) so I might
update the site. I copy the candidate information again in appendix.
I cannot disclose their email. But I just created the
candidates@execlub.org mailing list. It is in ReplyTo this
atlarge-discuss@lists.fitug.de list so this is just a global name for all
the candidates. There is an header on every mail saying that the mail is
part of their candidacy.
Please use it! I copied my 21 questions there.
Force the candidates to respond.
Force the candidates to explain who they are, what they want, where they
want you to go
The Polling Committee can only run the election, not to also elect the
Panel for you guys!

Everyone:
I think most of you, if not all, would agree that the seas we have been
sailing to the election of a new panel have been choppy at best, and
occasionally threatened to capsize our ship altogether.
While the path to get there has been made up all along the way,
nevertheless the object of our destination has always been the same -- the
election of the best possible new panel for our still forming organization
with as much integrity as fleeting time and current circumstances allow.
Some may be loathe to read me saying it, but Jefsey Morfin is to be
credited at least for his dogged determination to get us there, wherever
it is "there" turns out to be in the persons elected as new panelists. He
has been tireless and like a bulldog. I salute him for that.
As of this writing there is no support for voluntary submission of
"documents" to, and the receipt, verification and certification by the
watchdog committee; neither within the polling committee or the watchdog
committee itself. As a member of the watchdog committee I stand alone in
supporting a verification process. Yet I am remaining a watchdog till the
completion of the election.
I am however irretrievably committed to the voluntary submission of
"documents" to, and the receipt, verification and certification of them by
SOMEONE, for the limited purpose of this election. Therefore I am
submitting MY documents, sufficient I believe but I can make more
available, to ALL of you for your review, judgement and satisfaction.
I have written previously that interested members could find my driver
license -- password protected with a need to write me for a password. It
is still available, only now I have included in the same document my
passport and I HAVE REMOVED THE PASSWORD PROTECTION. I have republished
the link to it in the first entry in my @large volunteer profile along
with a few more words of explanation at
http://www.icannatlarge.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=250.
Having now submitted myself to all of you, I cordially invite any of you
who wish to stand, join and work with me NOW in an ad hoc "certification
and verification committee" (for lack of a better name) to arise out of
the full membership of this organization for the receipt, examination and
verification of readily available material and new material voluntarily
submitted by candidates in this election.
There is still time. It is not something that needs be put off until
tomorrow or the next election.
(1) Those wishing to join me will need to satisfy me, and any others who
join me, of their identity in this committee so that we may certify
ourselves to the membership. Each will also be required to pledge
confidentiality to protect the privacy of other committee members and the
candidates, and that they will permanently delete or destroy all copies of
submitted records in their possession at the election's conclusion. By
merely joining the committee one is automatically pledged to act in good
faith and with good will toward all.
(2) I will initially convene and chair the committee, cyber socially speaking.
(3) Candidates are cordially invited to submit ANYTHING they believe
substantiates their identity to a level sufficient to convince the
committee for certification to the membership. I have already seen some
pretty convincing site materials for some candidates.
Identifications with photos are the easiest and quickest to examine, such
as passports and driver licenses. Also curriculum vitas (resumes) bearing
photos. The possibilities are quite likely numerous, and additional
suggestions are welcome.
The committee will categorize the submissions and publish the categories
developed in an HTML chart with check marks (ticks) indicating the
appropriate categories according to the types of submissions. URLs to
candidate links will also be included where appropriate for the members'
convenience.
Please E-mail your submissions or links to your submissions to
Committee@starwalker.org. Members interested in joining the committee are
asked to use the same E-address to express their interest and for sending
their submissions or URL pointers to their submissions.
(4) A protected but unmoderated communications list for the committee is
already established, one I created previously for @large that has gone
unused. Committee members will be provided entry upon their qualification.
(5) I have borrowed ideas liberally from this list and I believe this idea
is pretty fully "baked." Nevertheless, I may have missed or forgotten
something and invite constructive comment to better implement it. At the
same time I will disregard naysaying.
I cordially invite all of you to join me in this effort.
Respectfully submitted,

*Commentary for Optional Reading*
Those of you who may wish to better understand my commitment to the
greatest election integrity process possible, beyond my writings on this
list, are invited to read the tail end entries in my posted resume at
http://www.icannatlarge.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=250 where you will find
my story.
In the purely physical world, candidates who do not campaign in the flesh
simply do not get elected! They must be seen and heard, if by most people
only on TV and radio, and people are assured at least of their existence,
whatever their merits be.
It is the unique circumstances of this cyber world we here commonly live
in, most certainly in this election, that people are free to adopt and
"live" fictional existences among us.
Having long experience in "anonymous" Internet chat rooms and engaged in
endless "on-line dating" I have become accustomed to sorting real people
from on-line personas by persistent credentialing demands and exchanges. I
do not stop until I am satisfied that someone is who they say they are.
Until I am satisfied I do not take any person seriously; nothing in my
life depends on them. Of course it helps immeasurably that I am a
psychotherapist too, and can fairly quickly uncover phonies with
persistent questions. :)
Part of my declining, albeit belatedly, nomination to the panel was my
conviction that panel service was more than I wanted, more than I could,
handle at this time. This effort however -- is exactly the right size for
me and in-and-out of the heart of my experience.
Presently I have all the time it will take for this worthy 11th hour
effort and can give tirelessly to it.
