eric, jefsey and others,

as i introduced myself in the url i provided, i am an accountant here in the philippines who is in my senior year in law school and who has been reading stuff about information technology law issues.

my involvement with @large so far is limited. i remember registering for the first @large elections but i don't remember voting. (i can't even remember why i did not.) then i got accepted in the icann travel support program of the salzburg seminar and was able to attend montevideo and marina del rey meetings of icann in 2001 where the preliminary and final reports of the @large study committee, respectively, were discussed. i then joined attendees from other developing countries in a statement opposing the alsc's recommendation to reduce the number of @large directors from 9 to 6.

i confess i have not been following the discussions in this group from the very beginning. there is obviously so much that i do not know. (i don't even know what alac is.) that is why i don't feel confident participating in the "heated" debates going on in the mailing list. my concern is that we seem to be so engrossed with ourselves here that we tend to forget that there is a world out there of internet users who does not even know about @large.

please know that i am not optimistic nor dying to get elected. jefsey can attest that i was a bit surprised when i received notice of my nomination and second. i am a "newbie" (and i read that quip about us newbies being nominated) who would be content just to learn from the your "heated" debates here. i feel though that it will some contribution to remind us of something.

you know, when a prisorer escapes, we say that there is a prisoner at-large. meaning, there is a prisoner out there, not in here. that's the same for internet users. there's many out there (millions of them) who are not in here. that's the @large that we should be concerned about.

i thank jefsey for welcoming our participation here. i support the candidacy of joop (ive known him since the time i attended the icann meetings and i know how dedicated he is in all these things). i also support joop's position about verification (there has to be some amount of verification but not to the extent as to derail the election - that is if i understood him correctly).

provide an i.d. as joey (borda) would want us to? maybe the others. for me, the url i gave is enough. no one needs to vote for me. :)

"Plan for what is difficult while it is easy, do what is great while it is small. The most difficult things in the world must be done while they are still easy, the greatest things in the world must be done while they are still small. For this reason sages never do what is great, and this is why they can achieve that greatness." - Attributed by Sun Tzu to warriors of ancient times.
