[atlarge-discuss] Re: Provisional Membership Committee

I was called away from my computer earlier and tried sending emails to this group via my handheld, but I'm unsure if anyone received them.

I cannot agree with Ron's "report" on the findings of the Provisional Membership Committee. I wish to disassociate myself from any kind of approval or support for his "report" at this time.

Also, let me point out that Abel Wisman, to my knowledge, never volunteered to work on the Provisional Membership Committee so I cannot understand why Ron would include his name at the bottom of his "report". That being the case, Ron, it is quite clear that of the remaining 8 volunteers you list as members of the Provisional Membership Committee at the tail end of your "report", no less than 50% have distanced themselves from your report. Hence, your "report" is not a consensus document, so I cannot understand how you can possibly claim any kind of "consensus" with which I "dissented". there is obviously no consensus, and making that claim is a patently false assertion.

Ah, here it is...I see you have included my name. Please remove it until I have time to review. I will endorse it later or submit comments separately as appropriate.
Thanks,

Subject: Provional Membership Committee

Dear Joop:
I do not know if the Panel has elected a Chairperson or not. I
therefore send the following reort to you as the Panel member who
earned the highest number of votes in the recent @Large election.
Please find below the report of the Provisional Membership Committee.
This committee was not authorized by your Panel due to the fact
that no Panel was in place at the time members were asked to
volunteer to look into allegations that non-persons (unverified
Internet persona) may have been included as canndidates and
elected to office.
The committee udertook to use the 24 hour period from 00:00Zulu
Saturday to 00:00Zulu Sunday to look into these allegations and to
attempt to determine if the elected Panel members had complied
with three conditions requested by some members. Those simple
requirements were:
1) that the elected Panel member be a real person and verified as
such.
2) that the elected Panel member declare her / his willingness to
serve on the Panel for a time certain.
3) that the elected Panel member make hemself or herself known to
the membership they are elected to serve by way of an introductory
post to the atLarge-discuss list.
Our report and addenda are copied below.
Respectfully, Ron Sherwood
We, the members of the Provisional Membership Committee wish to
advise the
elected Panel and our @Large membership that during the past 24
hours we
have determined that:

1) All elected Panel members are real persons and not artificial
persona. (With the exception of two members, which comments are
set as addenda (i) and (ii) below.)
2) a number of elected Panelists have declined to respond to
members requests to
introduce themselves to the membership on the atlarge-discuss list.
3) one elected Panelist, Sebastian Klein, has declined to
confirm a willingness to work
on the Panel for a time certain.
4) one Panel member,Sebastian Klein, has not responded to any
email requests and has
failed to post to any of this organization's fora. It is a
possibility that
Sebastian Klein is on vacation or incommunicado for some other
reason, but we
find it unreasonable that this Panelist has not asked to be
excused from
attending meetings of the Panel or posting on the atLarge-discuss
list.
5) It is our recommendation to the Panel that:

a) All unknown Panelists be required to introduce themselves to the
membership on the atLarge-discuss list. (With the exception of one
member
which comment is set as addendum (iii) below.)
b) Sebastian Klein be contacted and advised that his failure to
attend three
consecutive meetings or his failure to vote on three consecutive
motions
will lead to his automatic resignation from the Panel. (With the
exception of one member
which comment is set as addendum (iv) below.)
c) if, for any reason, Sebastian Klein (or any other Panelist)
resigns from the
Panel, The next highest, qualified, vote-getter should be asked to
join the
Panel as a replacement.
Addendum (i) Sotiris Sotiropoulos dissented from that consensus
with the following notation:
"No. No. No. We have established nothing of the kind. I cannot
agree."
Addendum (ii) Micheal Sherril dissented from the consensus with
the following notation:
"No, we have not established that statement for certain"
Addendum (iii) Micheal Sherril dissented from the consensus with
the following notation:
"If they have not introduced themselves to the atLarge discuss
list by this
deadline this is a moot point. Recommend the boot, instead. They
have already
been asked several times to do this."
Addendum (iv) Micheal Sherril dissented from the consensus with
the following notation:
"Same as above. Klein has missed the deadline. Recommend the
boot, instead.

Eleven members volunteered to work on this committee, nine members
participated.
The nine participants are:
Joey Borda
Jeff Holt
Kristen Doyle
Martha Gotlieb
Joanna Lane
Micheal Sherril
Sotiris Sotiropoulos
Abel Wisman
Ron Sherwood.

"The science of jurisprudence regards the state and power as the
ancients regarded fire- namely, as something existing absolutely.
But for history, the state and power are merely phenomena, just as for
modern physics fire is not an element but a phenomenon.

From this fundamental difference between the view held by history
and that held by jurisprudence, it follows that jurisprudence can tell
minutely how in its opinion power should be constituted and what
power- existing immutably outside time- is, but to history's questions
about the meaning of the mutations of power in time it can answer
nothing."
