That is a major concern of my own. I have argued this case on the GA list
and if people abuse their domains then injured parties should pursue the
offenders through normal legal processes. Individual registrants should not
have their private contact details posted in the WHOIS unless they wish them
to be posted. There is a danger from harrassment, and from loonies, and like
Danny, my phone number does not appear in any public phonebooks, and yet it
is supposed to appear in a public WHOIS list. Why can't these details be
retained securely, and only be released to a complainant if there is a court
order? I know that some registrars run services to mask identities, but in
my opinion a registrant's right to privacy should be established in
principle throughout the industry.
