Ah well. If  the data was held in the US, and the hijacking of the 
mailing lists happened in the US, then EU data protection rules won't 
help (and US ones seem weak to non-existent). On the other hand, this 
may count as spam, and he may run foul of some country's spam laws. Not 
much chance that anything would come of that though. It's not like 
anyone will extradite him, after all.

I don't find Jefsey's explanations helpful. To be honest, I can't 
extract much meaning at all from what he wrote. And I now have more 
"straight to wastebasket" email filters than I need or like :-(

Perhaps a tightly moderated list for productive discussions might be a 
good thing? Naturally the noisy list should remain for the free-speech 
fundamentalists ;-)

If you want a web-based forum, maybe something like slashcode / slashdot 
with its community moderation might weed out some of the wasters...
