For real.
If it is met with silence (as Hugh Blair suggests)... it is still on the
record and will remain as a testament to the ICANN attitude to at-large
users. If it is met with any other response, we are free to leverage that
response to our advantage.
Any kind of grant would be helpful. When we are legitimized by
incorporation, and we have an elected BoD with President, Secretary and
Treasurer (or their Trustee equivalents), there are many foundations that we
could apply to for grants. In addition I, along with many other members,
will be happy to make an annual donation to help with expenses. However,
ICANN has a mandate to build at-large participation in its affairs. It is
therefore the obvious first place to apply for financial assistance in this
effort.
I repeat, we have nothing to lose by asking ICANN for seed money. ICANN has
a lot to lose by refusing us.
