Re: [atlarge-discuss] Another lawsuit against ICANN, to stop WLS
Abel,
1. Re: << Try economics 101 on the results of a monopoly service >> -- The
average Internet user is aware that monopolies exist. Not all monopolies are
evil or a cause for concern to the average Internet user. All domain name
registries are monopolies, and yet that doesn't rise to the level of a major
concern.
2. Re: << Try the loss of money once paid >> -- Not all products work as
expected and sometimes one does lose one's money. The initial rollout of the
IDN testbed is sufficient proof of that. All commerce involves a risk factor
and "buyer beware" is an admonition that routinely enters into our lives.
Again, this doesn't rise to the level of a significant concern for users.
3. Re: << Try overpaying a domain at least 6 times >> -- The price for a
domain that is currently in use by another party can legitimately be expected to
cost more than the typical newly registered domain. Why is this an issue to
the average Internet user? If I planned on buying your house, I am sure that
it would be valued higher after your occupancy therein than when it was first
constructed. Yes, this might affect speculators, but not the average Internet
user.
4. Re: << Try the abismall service record of Verisign >> -- Neither ICANN
nor any other body can compel any business, VeriSign or otherwise, to modify
its customer service methodologies. This is not a compelling argument to thwart
the launch of a Wait Listing Service.
5. Re: << Try insider trading with snapnames on the topic >> Again, why is
this a concern to my aunt Ethel in Omaha?
6. Re: << Try the fact that a trial is not for one but at the very minimum
3 years. >> Who ever said that a trial should be limited to six months or one
year? Again, why is this a concern to the average Internet user?
While I understand why the implementation of WLS would be a concern to those
offering competing services, I have yet to hear a convincing argument as to
why this should be a concern to the general user community.
