With Whistler Microsoft plans to introduce a new form of copy
protection involving compulsory registration and resulting in 'single
use' software. But there are signs of revolt among the troops - at
least in Microsoft Germany.

Microsoft: Nur für Deutsche kein Kopierschutz

In der geplanten Windows-Version (Codename Whistler) soll ein
Kopierschutz die Installation des Betriebssystems auf mehreren
Rechnern verhindern. In Deutschland allerdings zögert Microsoft mit
der Einführung der Technik: Die PC-Nutzer hierzulande gelten bei der
US-Firma als besonders aufsässig.

Denn anwenderfreundlich ist das Sicherheits-System nicht: Ein neuer
Aktivierungsschlüssel wird bereits erforderlich, wenn beispielsweise
eine neue Grafikkarte oder eine größere Festplatte eingebaut werden.
Ansonsten verweigert Windows nach 50 Tagen seinen Dienst.
