EU backs e-commerce "trustmark"

BRUSSELS--Seeking to encourage Europeans to shop on the Internet, the
European Commission is planning a single trustmark scheme to ensure
minimum standards of online consumer protection, a Commission
official said on Tuesday.
By displaying an easily recognizible icon--the trustmark--on a Web
Site, registered merchants would be able to show consumers they meet
certain protection standards, such as data privacy requirements,
commitment to price and information transparency and information
about how to deal with complaints.
