some notes (I was there most of the time):
The board voted very early in the process to award only one domain per 
applicant.
Afilias had applied for a list of domains, including .web and .info.
There were other applicants for .web, including one (Neustar/JVTeam) that 
was removed from consideration because there were significant changes after 
the application (basically it started out as a partnership with Melbourne 
IT, but the partnership was now dissolved, so it was impossible to do what 
the submission claimed it would do).

So rather than award the "valuable piece of real estate" on the Last Man 
Standing principle, the Board chose to award Afilias .info and not consider 
any of the applicants for .web at this time.

It's obviously high on the list for the NEXT round (after implementation & 
evaluation of the current bunch).
